Backport [7.9] Incorrect behavior of hst:schemeagnostic inheritance on hst:virtualhost

I have a hosts configuration with a hst:vistualhost hierarchy as follows

com / gogreen / www / hst:root / ...

hst:hosts has hst:scheme set to http. When I set the hst:schemeagnostic on the "www" hst:virtualhost node (to true), and then access https://www.gogreen.com, I can access the site over https (good). When I move the hst:schemeagnostic to either the "gogreen" or the "com" hst:virtualhost, and try to access https://www.gogreen.com, I get redirected to http://www.gogreen.com.

So, while I expected that I could access the site over https, I get redirected to http, which, to my understanding, is wrong.
