Clicking items on panels (dashboard, document, developer) hang the browser in IE11

Opening an Item on several of the panels freezes in IE11.
After clicking an item you see the loading indicator spinning and the page is blocked.
This happens on for

• Documents Panel -> clicking a folder or document
• Dashboard -> change password
• Development Panel -> Update Editor

Workaround:
Refresh the page after clicking.

Steps to reproduce (in archetype):

• login into CMS
• click "Development" icon
• click "Update Editor"
  Expected: Update Editor is displayed
  Actual: Loading indicator spins and the browser page becomes unresponsive.
