Image thumbnails deformed for elongated images

Thumbnails are displayed with a fixed width and height of 60px * 60px. The result is that elongated images are displayed in a distorted way. The best solution would be to set height to 60px, if the image's height is bigger than it's width, and vice versa. Don't know if this is possible in CSS though.
