    Description

      User story
As a user making changes to a document, I am unsure what happens when I click 'cancel' or 'discard'

      Problem description
When you have made changes to a document in the CMS and want to cancel those changes you click "Cancel". Then a popup appears with two buttons "Cancel" and "Discard".
This is a bit confusing. When you click "Cancel" you cancel the cancellation. Also, the text in the popup is unclear in Dutch, see below for a Dutch comment on that. (English seems better to me)

      Acceptance criteria

      1. when cancelling changes in a document the modal should unambiguously express what happens when I click the respective buttons for 'cancel' or 'discard'

      Suggestion from client:
A suggestion for improving this popup would be to make a yes/no question. Then you click "yes" after you click "Cancel". That would be a more logical flow.
Note that this also occurs in other languages.

The word 'discard' translates much better to 'weggooien' than to 'negeren'

      Solution

The current message asks the user 2 questions at the same time:

      1. Is it OK to discard unsaved changes to the document?
      2. Do you really want to cancel the editing?

The (single) question it should ask is: "Do you want to proceed with canceling the editing even though it means that unsaved changes will be lost?" (but more concise ). The answer to that could (indeed) be 'Yes' or 'No', but in that case the meaning of the 'No' option would be ambiguous. That is why we (try to) use the name of the action that triggered the message in the message's title, text and as the label for the 'yes'-button, and 'Cancel' for the 'no'-option: cancel the action.

In this case, though, that would mean that the 'yes' option would be called 'Cancel' too... 'Stop editing' (which is part of the Cancel button tool tip text) is used instead. See attached image for all textual changes.

In the Dutch translation 'negeren' is replaced not with 'weggooien' but with 'ongedaan maken' because that text is used as the translation of discard in other places (for instance on the button visual editor in the experience manager).

      Summary of textual changes:

Item Current text English New text English Dutch translation (of new text)
Cancel button tool tip Discard changes and stop editing   Wijzigingen ongedaan maken en stoppen met bewerken
Dialog title Cancel editing Stop editing? Stoppen met bewerken?
Dialog text Discard unsaved changes to document '<document name>'? This will discard unsaved changes to document '<document name>' Dit zal niet-opgeslagen wijzigingen in document '<document naam>' ongedaan maken
Dialog affirmative button Discard Stop editing Stoppen met bewerken

Note that the message appears only if the document has unsaved changes.
