The preview does not show the selected variant when switching

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a channel in the Experience manager
2. Select a component
3. Select a different variant

Expected result:

The selected variant version of the component is displayed in the site

Actual result:

The variant version of the component that was selected when the page loaded is displayed
