List component does not render documents without an image or date

The list component cannot render documents without an image or date.

Steps to reproduce:
1. login to the archetype CMS
2. edit the only channel, and drag a 'List' component into the home page
3. edit the List component, and change the 'Sort order' field to 'ascending'

Expected: the list shows documents ordered ascending on date
Actual: the list component fails to render, and Freemarker exceptions are being logged.
