poll component: configuring is broken

To reproduce:

• add a poll component to a page
• configure the "path to polls" setting to point to the "polls" folder in the content tree

Expected: the active (sample content) poll is shown
Actual: nothing changes; when you then select another folder, say "blogs", the control updates and shows the active sample poll

Both the Freemarker and the JSP version have this problem.
