In a recent email conversation, the team of trainers asked Product Management what PMs preference was: FreeMarker or JSPs. The answer to that question is "FreeMarker" 
As it turns out, the new developer trails are already being written using FreeMarker templates on disk. The trainers will now also use FreeMarker on disk for the new training material. Please also adjust Essentials to use FreeMarker from disk as the default.
