No image upload possible in newly created gallery

In the browse tab, under Documents, there is an option "Create Gallery" in the dropdown. This creates a new folder, presumably of the gallery type. However there is no option of uploading images into that newly created gallery. When uploading images through the "Add image" dialog, there is no option of selecting a gallery. All images go into the default gallery.
