Manage Content button creates document but does not update component

Using the Manage content button in a react project (https://www.npmjs.com/package/@bloomreach/react-sdk).
The create content button shown in the CM

The document is created but not added to component configuration. So no document is added to the component and an error is returned:
Failed to retrieve Sitemap representation for document[${documentId}]

The component has no document and still displays the add content button
